The North Cobb High School Marching Band dates, intent form, audition dates for colorguard and percussion were all distributed to the students On Thursday, April 14th.  Please reveiw these with your child and return the information to the North Cobb Band directors.

Large Group Festival Performance

Wednesday. March 23, 2016

The 7-1/8-2 Band will be participating in the GMEA District XII Large Group Festival on March 23rd, 2016.  Every band in the Cobb County School District is required to attend this festival.  This is an extremely important event for all students to participate, as we will be critiqued and evaluated by 8 highly qualified judges.  Please read the itinerary carefully below.

9:00am                        Bring uniforms to the Auditorium. Bring a packed sandwich, drink to

eat for dinner.

3:00pm            Meet in the Palmer auditorium for rehearsal.

4:10pm            Meet in the cafeteria to eat packed lunch/change into uniform

5:00pm            Load Busses and depart for Kell High School.

5:25pm            Arrive and unload busses      

5:40pm            Warm-up in Warm-up room A

6:25pm            Perform in Kell High School Auditorium (Parents are strongly encouraged

to attend J )

6:55pm            Clinic and Sight-reading

7:30pm            Load busses and depart for Palmer Middle school

8:00pm            Arrive at Palmer Middle School, unload, depart with parents.

If you would like to pick-up your child at Kell High School and drive them home, I must have a note in writing no later than Wednesday, March 16th.

Attached is a permission slip that must be signed and returned no later than Wednesday, March 16^th.  We are in need to 4 chaperones to ride the busses and assist us this day, if you are interested please email me at:  sue.bulock@cobbk12.org.

Band Calendar Updates/Changes - 7th & 8th Grade only

We have made some changes to our Band Calendar, due to some unforeseen conflicts.  All of the changes are for events that are required for students to attend Disney/Stars and Strikes, so please check/update your calendar. The updates to the Calendar are as follows:

Changed Dates

February 27^th       7-2 Band Symphonic camp has been moved to Saturday, March 5^th from 9:00am                               – 2pmat Palmer MS. (Conflicts with HS Camps)

March 1^st             Pre-festival Concert has been moved to Thursday, March 3^rd at 7pm in the        Palmer Theatre.  This features the 7-1, 8-1 and 8-2 Bands performing their LGPE selections. (Moved because elections were scheduled in the theatre that day)

March 3^rd & 4^th  The 7-1/8-2 Symphonic camp that was scheduled after school these two days, have been moved to Monday, March 14^th & Tuesday, March 15^th (moved because of concert change)

Updated Dates- These dates were originally scheduled as TBD until we received the LGPE schedule.

March 10^th          The 8-1 Band is scheduled to perform at McEachern for LGPE at 4:30pm

March 23^rd          The 7-1/8-2 Bands are scheduled to perform at Kell HS for LGPE at 6:25pm

March 24^th          The 7-2 Band is scheduled to perform at Kell HS for LGPE at 5:35pm

Additional information will be sent home about all of these upcoming events.  If you have a conflict with one of the changed dates, please email Ms. Bulock or Mr. Dietrich about it before the February 12^th, 2016.

Playing Test & Pass Off Assignments - Did you know?

Did you know that students may replay all playing tests and pass offs as many times as they want to increase their grade?  The end of the 2nd Six Week Marking Period is Friday, October 30th.  If you child has a lower grade on a pass off or playing test they can:

Record themselves as home and email it to the band directors at:  palmerbanddepartment@gmail.com

or

come in to open band before school between 8:15-9:00am and play for a director or for the director's ipad if they are busy

or

Schedule a time after school to meet with a director to replay tests.

We want your students to be successful, so please let us help!

Band Uniforms

The new band uniforms will be distributed to all 7th & 8th grade students next week.  The uniform pants and skirts all come not hemmed and very long.  This is on purpose because your child will grow significantly between the fall of 7th grade and spring of their 8th grade year.  We will be providing hem tape to everyone to help you adjust the length.  The hem tape can be ironed in requiring zero sewing skills :)

Instructions about how to hem and how to use the hem tape will be included with the uniform.

All students who are borrowing a uniform will be given a uniform loan agreement that will need to be filled out and returned to the band directors.  We would like to distribute all of these uniforms by the end of next week as well.  Please ask your child about the uniform contract.
